On March 26, a scientific seminar will be held at the Josep Carreras Institute (IJC) Auditorium in Badalona (Barcelona, Spain) focusing on single-cell multi-omics technology developed on Mission Bio’s Tapestri® platform, designed to integrate the analysis of DNA, proteins, and RNA in the same individual cell.
This hybrid event—with both in-person and virtual attendance—will bring together leading experts in genomics and cell biology to explore how the single-cell multi-omics approach is transforming the study of cellular heterogeneity , clonality, and the evolution of complex diseases , with a focus on hematological diseases and cancer.
The program consists of several scientific presentations, including one by Dr. Lars Velten from the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG), entitled “Tracing blood stem cell clones with somatic epimutations .” Also participating will be Dr. Montserrat Céspedes from the IJC and Ferran Nadeu ‘s group from the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), providing complementary perspectives on practical applications of the technology in translational research.

A center of reference for hematological cancer research
The Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute (IJC) is a leading biomedical research center in Europe specializing in leukemia and other malignant blood diseases. Established in 2010 through a collaboration between the Government of Catalonia and the Josep Carreras International Private Foundation, the IJC is dedicated to understanding the biological mechanisms underlying these diseases and developing more precise and less aggressive treatments.
In addition to the seminar, the IJC has a Single Cell Unit equipped with cutting-edge technologies for single-cell genomic and transcriptomic analysis, including the Tapestri® platform and Chromium devices (10X Genomics).
This unit was recognized in 2022 as the first Tapestri Center of Excellence in Europe , in collaboration with Mission Bio, reinforcing its role in hematological and solid tumor research from a high-resolution cellular perspective.
Single-cell technology allows capturing the complete heterogeneity of a sample, identifying cell populations that are hidden with conventional bulk sequencing methods, and offering powerful tools for the development of new drugs and targeted therapies.
Mission Bio and the Tapestri® platform
Mission Bio, Inc. is a company specializing in single-cell, multi-omics analysis technologies that accelerate discoveries in biomedicine and pharmacology. Its Tapestri® platform stands out as one of the few commercial solutions capable of simultaneously measuring genetic variants, copy number variations (CNVs), and phenotypic data such as cell surface markers, all at the single-cell level.
This capability allows researchers to unravel cellular complexity in a detailed and scalable manner—including the detection of rare subclones and the characterization of therapeutic resistance—making it a key tool for precision medicine and advanced translational research.
The collaboration between Mission Bio and the Josep Carreras Institute seeks to enhance the use of these methodologies to study disease progression, resistance to treatments and measurable residual disease in blood cancers, as well as in new research programs in solid tumors.
